Bird ID Master is a program first developed in 2017 on the WeChat platform, which was developed initially as a programmer birdwatching novice to help the author to identify bird photos quickly. 2020, iOS App was finally released.

Currently, Bird ID Master identifies most of the 10,928 bird species in IOC 10.1, even including some extinct birds. The training data came from almost all bird pictures on the Internet achieves this. Because of the wide range of sources, we have made great efforts on data cleaning and model optimization. The accuracy of the model is 80% for Top1 and 93% for Top5 without filter. Top1 accuracy will be up more than 95% with country filtering.

Most of the bird descriptions in Chinese and pictures of species are from Wikipedia, niaolei.org.cn, and some of birds in China are licensed from Dr. John MacKinnon's "A Filed Guide to the Birds of China", with thanks to him for permission to use it in the App. Besides of that, there are some photographics contributed by some Chinese photographers , which will be ported over from the Wechat mini-program in the future. The English material is entirely from Wikipedia English. All the contents except Dr. Dr. John MacKinnon's "A Filed Guide to the Birds of China" and user-contributed photo materials, following the original copyright license.

Bird ID Master is developed by two programmers. One of us working part-time on the model and one working full-time on the full stack. We are solely driven by our personal love for bird watching, machine learning, and codingto the development of Bird ID Master. We don't have any academic, research or corporate background, and we are completely self-funded, including development costs, servers in China/United States/Canada, network and maintenance costs, etc.

So, if you think our app is doing well and helpful, wish us can continue the development and improvement and the App can be free of charge and ad-free, you can support the author by donating a cup or cups of coffee/milk tea. Here are two ways to donate.
